Eddie Gilfoyle

Euan News

We were delighted to welcome Eddie Gilfoyle to our office yesterday (14 September), after a lengthy absence during the Covid lockdown. It was, as always, a huge pleasure for us to see him.

Eddie gives tirelessly of his time and effort, in support of the work of this organisation. He regularly speaks about his case, and his experience, to our students. Yesterday was no exception. He and Paddy Hill gave our current student volunteers a powerful, at times emotional, and utterly compelling first-hand account of events and experiences that most would struggle to imagine, let alone survive. The value of this unique insight, to this organisation and to its staff, is simply immense. We are grateful to Eddie – and, of course, to Paddy – for their kindness and their humility in providing our staff with access to information that they could never gain elsewhere. All the more so because we understand that it comes at the cost of personal distress.

Eddie is currently in Scotland for a few days’ break, and change of scenery. All of us at MOJO wish him an enjoyable stay.

Now that the dust is beginning to settle on the passing of the long-in-the-making Victims, Witnesses and Justice Reform (Scotland) Bill, it is time to take stock of what this “landmark” exercise in law-making actually delivers. Excessive use of charging powers observed in joint enterprise trials, say researchers

From The Guardian online, today, we reproduce the striking findings of research undertaken by our London colleagues, Appeal, into the use of the “joint enterprise” doctrine by prosecutors in England and Wales. Our friends at JENGbA have been tirelessly campaigning about this for years. This is not an issue unique to England and Wales. In […]
