JENGbA Parliamentary Debate

Euan Events, News

Please help JENGbA get a parliamentary debate.
Dear All
We are asking our families, friends and supporters to write to their MP regarding a Parliamentary Debate taking place on 25th January 2018.
This is such an important debate which we have worked hard to secure with the help of MPs Lucy Powell and Andrew Mitchell amongst others.
We would appreciate you taking the time to email your MP to ask for their support, a suggested email is reproduced below.
In solidarity

Dear…
You may have heard that there will shortly be a Parliamentary Debate on Joint Enterprise, being led by Lucy Powell and Andrew Mitchell.
I just want to update you about the JENGbA campaign and how they are still fighting for justice even after their victory in the Supreme Court regarding the Jogee case. You may or may not be aware that since the law was deemed to ‘ have taken a wrong turn’ by the Supreme Court, no further joint enterprise appeals have been successful.
The law around Joint Enterprise remains in disarray and after many meetings with Lucy Powell MP and other prominent MPs, JENGbA have gained cross party support that has now led to Joint Enterprise being scheduled for debate at 11am on the 25th January 2018.
Lucy Powell will be joined by MPs Andrew Mitchell, Bob Neill and David Lammy amongst others. I am asking that as my local MP, you link up with Lucy Powell in the days beforehand, so that you can be brought up to speed and then attend the debate. It is paramount that you catch up and help push for the justice so many deserve.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards

In a hard-hitting article published today by Scottish Legal News, Alistair Bonnington identifies many of the serious concerns that we – and many others with experience of the Scottish criminal justice system – have voiced over the Scottish Government’s proposed Victims, Witnesses and Justice Reform (Scotland) Bill, currently working its way through the Scottish Parliament. Miscarriage of justice watchdog in the cross-hairs

The Andy Malkinson case is showing remarkable resilience in terms of its ability to hold the interest of the media. This type of story would normally last one news cycle or, perhaps, two – a matter of hours. It is deeply gratifying to see the continued and widespread press examination of this case, a month […]

Ethical, Moral and Legal Turpitude

The Independent reports, today, on a decision by the Crown Prosecution Service to bring no charges, following the “re-investigation” of the Birmingham pub bombings. Julie Hambleton, whose sister Maxine was killed in the atrocity, and who has fought tirelessly for justice over the intervening decades, describes that decision as “ethical, legal and moral turpitude”. It […]
