Edinburgh Conviction Referred to Appeal Court

Euan News

We are delighted to report that the conviction of our friend and client David Pugh has been referred to the Appeal Court by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (SCCRC).

David and his co-accused, Brian Meighan and Kevin Kane, were convicted at the High Court of Justiciary in 2000, and sentenced to six years imprisonment.  They served their sentences, but have maintained their innocence throughout.

The case has been referred for a fresh appeal because the SCCRC is satisfied that the three may have suffered a miscarriage of justice.  Fresh evidence, not available at the time of the trial, casts significant doubt on forensic evidence led by the Crown, and which contributed to the guilty verdict.

We have long believed in the innocence of David, Brian and Kevin.  We wish them well in the appeal to come.
