HFSG support funding for Relatives of Birmingham Pub Bombings

Euan Uncategorized

We fully support Sheila’s statement. Paddy did try to offer his support and was rebuffed. He is directly involved with Justice for the 21 working closely with Julie and Brian Hambleton. It would seem that someone is happy to pick and choose, playing politics with those seeking justice.

From Sheila Coleman from the Hillsborough Justice Campaign:

Here We go again! Why am I surprised by the hypocrisy of all this? One of the big sticks that the HFSG used to try and beat the HJC with was that we went on ‘Social Justice marches’. Now they are the arbiters of social justice through their chairperson. Also when we highlighted the support given to us from my good friend Paddy Joe Hill ( wrongly convicted of the Birmingham bombings) we were accused of denigrating Hillsborough. I could go on… The examples are multiple. The irony is that Paddy Hill has supported and campaigned for new inquests for the victims of the Birmingham bombings for years, just as he supported us. Of course Paddy is only ever reluctantly given a platform as he cannot be controlled, and always speaks his mind.
When are people going to wake up to the fact that this is not people power. This is the state appropriating social justice campaigns and controlling the narrative. In the case of Teresa May, it was to further the argument for private policing. In the case of Burnham and other Labourites… ? Draw your own conclusions. Either way it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and has me running in the opposite direction.

Ex-prisoner’s cry for help over indefinite jail term before his death

The Independent has today published an article which, whilst dealing with English law, highlights a major weakness in how we do justice in Scotland also. The article, which we publish below, draws attention to the appalling consequences of a failed experiment introduced by section 225 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 (with effect from 2005) by the […]

Victims of miscarriages of justice receiving no compensation under “outrageous” system

The Telegraph of 11 September carried a shocking story exposing the failure of the criminal justice system in England and Wales to compensate victims of miscarriage of justice. The system in Scotland is scarcely better. Although the tests applied in Scotland are marginally less restrictive, both systems are founded in a piece of legislation, section […]
